Mark van den Berg, managing director of Quantum Experts, is an experienced Expert Witness with a wide range of capability and expertise in Australia and internationally. Prior to moving to Australia Mark was a London based quantum expert, from where he provided services on a number of UK and international disputes.

With over 35 years of experience in the Construction and Oil & Gas industry, Mark has a wide experience of various project types, both in the UK and internationally, under a variety of standard and specially drafted contract forms.

Whilst based in the UK significant projects included:

London Airport – £4.3 Bn
Strategic commercial close out for major project; total value settled £400m+

Turkey Pipeline – ICC Arbitration 200m USD
Assisted the contractor on a major international dispute, an ICC arbitration in connection with termination dispute on trans-turkey pipeline project. Led all the commercial/quantum works.

London Stadium £250m+
Initially appointed as the Programme and Quantum Expert during the preliminary stage, thereafter as the dispute progressed continued as Quantum Expert.

Norwich UK – Mixed use commercial facility £1m
Project Management expert in respect of multi-party litigation in connection with Norwich city commercial development.

London Residential Project £4m
Project Management and Quantum Expert.

Qatar LNG – Multi-billion USD
Assurance review and report to senior management regarding disputes on multi-billion USD LNG project in the Qatar Industrial City complex.

Norway North Sea project – subsea pipeline project 40m USD
Contract advice and dispute resolution services in connection with off-shore project.

Ireland Airport terminal 690 M Euro
Dispute evaluation, strategy and resolution.

Nigeria – Integrated Steel Mill, £100m+
Preparation of quantum submission.

*In Australia Mark led the dispute avoidance and resolution function on a multi-billion dollar oil & gas project *where he was responsible for the evaluation and resolution of claims with a total value in excess of AU$3Bn, established and implemented four Dispute Resolution Boards to resolve contractor disputes and supported three large arbitrations, one under a bespoke process and two under the ICC.
